Diablo IV’s Open Beta Draws Universal Acclaim

It has been nearly eight years since the last mainline Diablo game came out, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the long-anticipated Diablo IV, which is due out in just a couple of months, and the game’s equally as anticipated beta is finally here! The closed beta, open to pre-orders only is currently ongoing and the general consensus has been very positive.

Major praise has been directed at the game’s visuals and sound design. Console players in particular have commended the game’s control scheme on controllers which has been much improved from the previous entries. Additionally, the combat, MMO elements, and the overall darker tone have been very well accepted by long-time fans. Diablo IV launches June 6, 2023, across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

PS5 Pro Slated for Late 2024

The current generation of consoles is finally getting underway as the year-long shortage has finally started to subside and it looks like a major hardware revision for the PlayStation 5 is already on the way. Late last year it was reported that Sony was working on a “slim” PS5 with a detachable disc drive but it looks like something bigger might be brewing.

According to prolific leaker Tom Henderson, a Pro variant of the PlayStation 5 is now in development and will release late next year. The main intent behind this revision, according to Tom is to have more robust Ray-tracing and slightly higher visual fidelity. The PS5 Pro is slated to launch in late 2024.

Layers of Fear Remake Receives a New Trailer

The first two titles in the Layers of Fear series, the beloved psychological horror games from developer Anshar Studios are set to receive a remake later this year in one single package from Bloober Team, the studio behind The Medium. The game recently received a brand new 11-minute trailer, showcasing just how the beloved horror classic is being modernized for the latest generation of consoles.

The trailer shows a creepily reimagined yet faithful remake that dials everything the original games did up to 11. The trailer also shows off the modernized gameplay and the thicker atmosphere due to the use of Unreal Engine 5. The Layers of Fear Remake is currently without a release date but is expected to launch in the summer of 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Far Cry 5’s 60FPS Patch Live for Fifth Anniversary

Ubisoft’s Far Cry series has long stood the test of time and gamers, as the series still sees major releases nearly two decades on from release. The game’s fifth mainline entry, Far Cry 5 recently celebrated its fifth anniversary and the game received a surprise 60FPS patch for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. While the game didn’t see a native port on the newer generation of consoles, a performance patch will surely tempt gamers to finally give it a chance.

Starfield Receives “Restricted” Rating in Australia

Starfield, the highly anticipated space RPG from Bethesda Softworks releases this fall and anticipation has been mounting as fans look forward to its massive showcase (Starfield direct) slated for June. Even though the game is still a few months out, it has already received a rating from the Australian videogames board. Starfield has received a “restricted” rating citing drug use, violence, and some nudity, this definitely gives us a slight insight into what to expect from the game when it launches in September.

New Persona 5 Spin-Off Announced

Persona 5 was one of the most popular games on the PS4. Combining a visually impressive aesthetic and a well-rounded cast of characters quickly earned it a special place in the hearts of many gamers. The title would go on to spawn a next-gen version as well as a combat-focused spin-off, Persona 5: Strikers, it looks like another spin-off is on the way, but it may not be something most people were expecting.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is a new mobile-only game. the game will retain the main game’s impressive aesthetic and gameplay mechanics but will be a free-to-play title with optional in-game purchases. The game will first launch in China through a playtest before it receives a wider release. Persona 5: The Phantom X will launch and will receive its first playtest on March 29.
