5) Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege was first released in 2015 and has been going strong ever since. Minecraft made its debut in November 2011 and still remains one of the most popular games of all time. the game was initially released for PC but has been released for every major and minor console on the market and has gone on to sell over 250 million+ copies. Minecraft has seen many sequels over the years including Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Earth.
Minecraft remains popular mainly due to the freedom it offers. Minecraft allows you to build almost anything with the available materials including houses. The game has two modes; creative and survival. The former is good for people just looking to relax and build alongside friends while the latter is for people who are looking for more of a challenge. The simplicity of the game and its child-friendly nature means that it can be picked up by almost anyone regardless of age or gaming skill. Several updates are scheduled for the game in 2022 and beyond including new biomes such as the deep dark biome and the dangerous warden mob update.
2) Call of Duty
Call of Duty is an ongoing series from publisher Activision. It currently has a three-year development cycle as the game releases rotate between developers Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer. What primarily started out as a World War 2 shooter has now visited many eras and wars including the Cold War, Vietnam War, and more modern settings. Over the course of its almost 20-year history Call of Duty has added a plethora of new features which include weapon camos, a gunsmith system, and a prestige system.
Call of Duty is perhaps the most arcadey shooter out of all shooters available on the market right now. The series has been successful in retaining its tight and fast-paced gameplay while also iterating on key aspects such as gunplay and map design to keep the game fresh and enjoyable. The series has also seen the addition of several new game modes with each title over the years such as gunfight mode with Modern Warfare (2019), and Patrol with Vanguard.
The next entry in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (which is being developed by Infinity Ward) is scheduled for release on October 28th, 2022. It will debut with a new Warzone experience. MWII is going to be the first Call of Duty that will be supported for 2 years as Activision has decided to move Treyarch’s next title to 2024. Grand Theft Auto is one of the most successful game series of all time. selling an excess of 200 million copies across a dozen or so titles. The most popular game of the series, GTA 5 also launched GTA Online. It is one of the longest-running and most popular online multiplayer games of all time even 10 years after its release.
GTA Online has stood the test of time and remains as fun as it was when it first launched. There is perhaps no game on the market that lets you live out your criminal empire fantasy like GTA Online. You can choose to be part of a biker gang, owner of a nightclub, or an executive.
The possibilities are endless and make the game very replayable. If you’re done with one character you can always start a new character with a different career path and the game will play out very differently. Rockstar has continued to add new content to the game in the form of new cars, new heists, and activities. This has allowed the game to keep from going stagnant even 10 years on from release.
GTA Online currently shows no signs of stopping. Rockstar recently introduced a subscription model called GTA+ which gives the players monthly rewards like cash and exclusive in-game discounts. There are rumors of a new expansion coming to the game sometime soon but that remains to be seen. What we do know however is that GTA online will not die out anytime soon. The recent rerelease of the game on current-gen systems once again bolstered its popularity.
