During the latest State of Play, Sony revealed brand new gameplay and details for the upcoming PlayStation VR2 title, Horizon: Call of the Mountain. An all-new original VR experience set in the world of Horizon. The game is being helmed by Guerilla Games and Firesprite studios.

The trailer showed off the gorgeous new world players will get to experience. Intricately detailed environments and sharp textures have become a staple of Guerrillas. Forbidden West set the standard for open-world game details and Call of the Mountain certainly looks to build on this trend.

A New Horizon

Players will experience the world through the eyes of Ryas, a former shadow Carja Warrior who hopes to redeem himself by investigating and eliminating a new threat that looms over the Sundom.

Ryas is a master climber and archer. He must make his way up the mountain to investigate the threat and find out why the machines are attacking.

Throughout the game, players will experience a sizeable number of the iconic and supremely detailed machines featured in the previous games. The trailer confirmed the return of Thunderjaws, Lancehorns, Stormbirds, Watchers, and Snapmaws.

Ryas will pick up and master several tools and gear along the way that will help him in his quest to reach the top of the mountain.

The player will be able to craft new gear as well which will enable you to be prepared for any and every situation. Additionally, Ryas will encounter and will be helped by many familiar faces from the world of Horizon along the way, including Aloy!

Heightened Immersion

Horizon: Call of the Mountain will take full advantage of the PS VR2 headset. Including the finger tracking feature built into the controller. Furthermore, PS VR2 does away with camera tracking of the original headset in favor of headset-based inside-out tracking.

Eye-tracking will allow for more intricate and precise movement. While a built-in haptic feedback motor will provide new sensations for increased immersion similar to the DaulSense. Additionally, the high-resolution displays of the headset offer 4K rendering at a display resolution of 2000×2040 per eye. This will allow players to see more details than ever before.

Horizon: Call of the Mountain is currently without a release date, The game will launch alongside the new PlayStation VR2 headset sometime in 2023.
