Modern Warfare II Multiplayer Details Revealed
Ali Hasan September 16, 2022

The highly anticipated Call of Duty Next event finally took place and gave players a much-needed breakdown into what to expect from the Call of Duty franchise over the next couple of months. The event kicked off with new details on the game’s multiplayer portion giving players glimpses into the new and exciting changes coming to Modern Warfare II.
The development team has taken a considerable amount of feedback from Modern Warfare 2019 to make the sequel the best experience possible. Players have been split into 3 categories; Rushers, sentinels, and stalkers and the team has built a game that caters to all three player behaviors by diversifying perks, equipment, and map design.
Modern Warfare II will add Tonnes of New Features and Put Unique Twists on Existing Ones
In Modern Warfare II players will be able to select four perks but start with just two. The other two perks will be earned over the course of the match, playing the objective, and getting kills and assists will unlock these perks faster. The third perk will be referred to as the bonus perk and then the fourth one will be called the ultimate perk. The team has essentially taken the specialist feature from Modern Warfare and put a unique twist on it. Perks will not reset on death.
Water combat has been added for the first time to an Infinity Ward Call of Duty title. Meticulous detail has been employed to make the aquatic combat in Modern Warfare II the best in class. There will be unique ballistics for weapons underwater, meaning that gunshots will travel slower underwater as compared to on land, and enemies will require additional shots to take down. Aquatic combat will also provide additional cover during gunfights and will allow players to evade or get away from combat situations if the gunfight gets too intense.
A new ledge hangs mechanic has been added which will allow players to peak walls and add more verticality to combat across all maps and modes. The ledge hang mechanic will also add new lines of sights and nuance to the traversal and combat scenarios.
Furthermore, Dolphin dive makes a return in Modern Warfare II in addition to a new third-person mode, the first ever for a Call of Duty title. Third-person and the traditional first-person modes will be in separate playlists at launch.
Gunsmith 2.0 Makes the Revolutionary Customization System Less Grindy
Gunsmith was first introduced with Modern Warfare 2019 and has been iterated on with subsequent releases. The gunsmith system has been completely redone in MWII, allowing players to build their weapons more smoothly and easily.
There is a much deeper degree of customization in addition to the decrease in the overall grind factor. Weapon platforms will allow players to unlock an attachment that can be used across multiple weapons sharing the same weapon platform. For example, an unlock for the AK-74 can be used for the AK-74U since they share the same platform.
Another feature being added to the gunsmith is the weapon vault. Weapon vaults will give players visual parity across all weapon attachments, which means that all attachments within a weapon vault will share the same theme and color scheme. This will allow players to build the ultimate weapon without having to worry about visual compromises, which was a major problem in the last three entries.

New and Returning Equipment and Field Upgrades Will Provide New Ways to Play

The heartbeat sensor returns in Modern Warfare II and has been completely reimagined. It now has a battery system as a balancing mechanic in addition to sporting a newer and sleeker look. A Shock stick has been added that temporarily immobilizes enemies, while an EMP strike field upgrade (known as DDOS) allows you to shut down every piece of equipment and field upgrade to easily infiltrate enemy strongholds.
A tactical camera network, like the one seen in Rainbow Six Siege, allows you and your teammates to have an additional source of information on the map, players on the same team will be able to access each other’s camera, essentially building an entire camera system all around the map.
The drill charge bores into walls and deals splash damage. All these equipment and field upgrades will provide the player with unique and exciting new ways to play. There will be a total of 13 field upgrades in the game at launch.
Maps Have Been Refined to Better Fit Each Game Mode

The core 6v6 maps have been refined to make them tighter as compared to the chaos of larger maps. There will be a greater visual and playstyle variety in the maps this time around, catering to all types of players. Sarrif Bay will put aquatic combat at the forefront while also highlighting the game’s ledge hand mechanic through rooftop combat while Marcado Las Almas, set in a street market in Mexico will play really fast putting a greater emphasis on close-quarters combat.
The larger maps will be called battle maps and will support new big game modes like Invasion. The invasion mode will be one of many high player count modes set on big maps. Invasion in particular will be a 20v20 high-action mode, essentially a large-scale team death match. The invasion mode will also feature AI enemies and companions.
Battle Maps will support up to 64 players and will be taken from the Warzone 2.0 map, Al-Mazrah. All buildings will be explorable and all vehicles will be drivable on battle maps.
Modern Warfare II will also see the return of Spec Ops. This time around Spec Ops will be 2 player missions inspired by iconic Modern Warfare missions of the past. More information on this mode will be revealed in the future. Call of Duty Modern Warfare II launches on October 28, 2022, across Playstation, Xbox, and PC.
