Hogwarts Legacy Review: Exceeds Expectations

The magical world of Harry Potter has entranced avid readers for the better part of the last two decades, transporting them to a rich world full of heart, unparalleled storytelling, and unforgettable characters. The series would spawn an equally as compelling movie series, bringing Rowling’s vision to life on the big screen. These big-screen adaptations also saw several movie tie-in games, an attempt to bring that magic into the homes and hands of gamers, and while they were serviceable, they were merely just poor imitations of the movies, attempting to cash in on the gaming market. These games were limited by two things; the movies and books themselves; as they could not deviate too far from the source material and constrained development times and small budgets which affected the overall quality of these releases. While there were other attempts, namely, the LEGO Harry Potter games and the Kinect-only Harry Potter

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: What to Expect

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took the gaming world by storm when it launched alongside the Nintendo Switch in 2017. In many ways, this single title set the trajectory that would allow the Switch to become the third highest-selling console of all time. It became what many would say, the killer app for the Switch, moving millions of units of the console. Its sequel The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks to continue this. Initially conceptualized as a DLC add-on for Breath of the Wild the ambitious nature of the title meant that it eventually spun off into its own full-fledged title, acting as a sequel to the 2017 game. Breath of the Wild breathed new life into the Zelda franchise and Tears of the Kingdom looks to do the same, building on the many conventions established by its predecessor, while also taking bold steps

Hi-Fi Rush Review: Striking a Chord

It’s not very common in today’s gaming landscape to see a developer branch out of their existing forte to deliver a game fundamentally different from their existing portfolio and do it so damn well. Tango Gameworks, the developer behind the highly successful Evil Within series and most recently, Ghostwire: Tokyo has broken all conventions with its latest game, Hi-Fi Rush. This game is a stark contrast from the developer’s previous offerings and is a radical departure from their established niche. Hi-Fi Rush combines the precision of rhythm-based games with flashy and over-the-top combat all in a colorful package to deliver a game that surprised and delighted me to no end. Endearing characters, a beautifully rendered world, clever writing, and a stellar soundtrack all meld together in this toe-tapping, laugh-out-loud, musically held-together adventure that kept me coming back for more.   Hi-Fi Rush Features Some Incredibly Well Written and Diverse Characters

Evolution of Resident Evil

There aren’t many game series that define an entire genre of gaming and do it several times over. Resident Evil is one of them. The series first launched in 1996, forever changing the nature of survival horror games as we know them today. Inspiring many games after it, the series has gone through several changes over the years. Whether that’s a change in tone, gameplay, or characters the series has managed to stay consistent in its relevancy, despite the shifting landscape of the gaming world, 26 years later the franchise is still at the top of its game, remaining one of Capcoms premier franchises and pulling in impressive numbers with each successive entry. Today we’ll be going over the evolution of Resident Evil. From its humble beginnings as a fixed camera survival horror game to a more action-centric approach and then finally returning to its roots with its more recent

Dead Space Review: Survival Horror Reborn

Remaking a beloved game can be a monumental and delicate task. On the one hand, you have to preserve the essence of the original so that the remake doesn’t stray too far from the heart of the original but on the other hand there needs to be enough innovation and just the right amount of change to justify the remake’s existence. Going into the Dead Space remake I was unsure whether the original even needed a remake because all things considered the original game holds up surprisingly well, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the team at EA Motive not only preserved the essence of the original but also justified the need for a remake. Dead Space is an excellent case study of how games should be remade. EA Motive has successfully brought the horror classic back to its former glory by delivering top-notch visuals and improvements across

Forspoken Review: Braving The Break

Forspoken Review: Braving The Break

Forspoken was first revealed during Sony’s June 2020 PS5 showcase, known as Project Athia back then. The game would not release for another three years and would face a long and tremulous development cycle marked by delays, setbacks, and a demo that some would argue did more bad than good. The good news, however, is that Forspoken is a largely solid game, introducing some incredible ideas that I could see being played around with by other studios and building on some gaming fundamentals that for the most work extremely well. Forspoken is a good game but one that is not without its caveats which can be overbearing at times but ultimately melt away and are eclipsed by its other facets as you embark on Frey’s journey of heroism and discovery. Athia is a Beautifully Realized and Unique Game World Forspoken takes place in the world of Athia which opens up
