The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Announced

The sequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been a long time coming and fans have been waiting patiently to continue Link’s adventure on the Nintendo handheld. During the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, the sequel was finally given an official title as well as the release date.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the official title of the sequel and will take Link beyond the confines of Hyrule in the most ambitious Zelda title to date.
Tears of the Kingdom Will Take Link to the Skies
Tears of the Kingdom is set to expand what Breath of the Wild did in every way possible. The game world has been expanded considerably, going beyond the confines of Hyrule and into the skies. The trailer shows Link skydiving from what appears to be a dungeon and later on, ascending into the skies.
There will be much more verticality in the game, even more so than in Breath of the Wild but it is unclear still, how this will tie into the story as Nintendo has remained very tightlipped about the game’s plot and narrative.
Also added to the game is a bird-shaped glider that Link jumps onto at the end of the trailer. Going one step above the first game’s paraglider, which no doubt will help Link traverse the skies as well as the lands of Hyrule.

Link’s Arsenal
While the new trailer didn’t show us any combat, last year’s teaser trailer did give us an idea of what to expect as far as combat is concerned. The combat looks to be largely the same but Link can be seen wielding a number of new weapons. How the sequel will iterate on the combat still remains to be seen but Link’s arsenal has clearly gotten an upgrade.

A sequel to Breath of the Wild was first announced in 2019 when it evolved from a simple DLC for the game to its own full-fledged sequel. The first gameplay trailer was shown in 2021. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom arrives May 12, 2023, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
