Sony Launches Revamped PlayStation Plus

Rumors for Sony’s competitor to Microsoft Game Pass first started in mid-2021. Sony officially announced the revamped PlayStation Plus (codenamed project Spartacus) in March 2022. The all-new PS Plus will combine the existing Plus service with PlayStation Now into a new three-tiered subscription model The three tiers are titled Essential, Extra, and Premium. The new service for PS4 and PS5 consoles is now available in select markets, with a wider release scheduled for June. PlayStation Plus Essential will include the ability to play online multiplayer, 2 free games a month, exclusive discounts and access to online cloud storage for game saves. After its initial appearance at the DC fandome in August 2020, little has been known about Gotham Knights, a new game featuring the bat family. Square Enix, the video game company known best for titles like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Legacy of Kain has sold off its western division along with its IPs to Embracer Group, a video conglomerate based in Europe. A press release from the Japanese publisher confirmed that Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, and Square Enix Montréal have been sold for a total of $300 million. After almost two years on the market Sony finally deployed the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) update to PlayStation Consoles earlier this week. VRR has been a long-requested feature for the PS5 console and brings with it frame rate increases, and screen tear reduction. What is VRR? The main job of VRR is to eliminate screen tearing when playing games, it occurs when your TVs refresh rate is out of sync with the consoles refresh rate. VRR syncs both the consoles and TVs refresh rate on the fly, resulting in reduced judder and much smoother gameplay overall. How to enable VRR on your PS5 console? It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant.
