The Last of Us Part I Review

The Last of Us Part I was announced much to the perplexity of fans. While fans were expecting a new IP from the studio, Naughty Dog announced a made-from-the-ground-up remake of one of the most beloved games of all time. The Last of Us Part I, being a 1-to-1 remake puts it in an awkward position. Coming from Naughty Dog it is no surprise the game excels in every conceivable way over the original but what is really needed? Is it worth it and who exactly is this remake for? The Last of Us Part I is a complete from-the-ground-up remake of the PS3 original. The developers promised completely overhauled visuals, new rendering techniques, and overhauled AI built in Naughty Dog’s latest engine, completely overhauled for the PS5. Cinematics and Facial Animations It was clear from the moment I started playing that careful and meticulous work had been done to

Saints Row Review

When developer Volition first teased a brand-new entry in the long-running and highly beloved Saints Row series fans were divided. Between a new entry in the series and a complete reboot of the existing games, players were unsure what to expect. A new storyline coupled with a fresh direction seemed like a gamble. But did it pay off? Saints Row, for all intents and purposes, manages to take one step forward and two steps back. While it isn’t a terrible game by any means it certainly is a rather unnecessary one. There are enough flashy and over-the-top moments to keep new players satisfied but for long time fans hoping for a return to form will be severely disappointed.   Welcome to your own Criminal Empire Saints Row kicks off at a flashy party scene where you first meet the saints who are clearly several months into their crime career, with

Stray Review

Stray proves that PlayStation’s recent commitment to indie games is paying off. BlueTwelve Studio manages to create a game out of an unlikely protagonist to deliver what is probably the most charming, imaginative, and enjoyable gaming experience on PC and Playstation in recent memory. Let Me Tell You A Tail… Stray starts off fairly simple as you assume the role of a cat just going about its day; Jumping onto objects, napping, and spending time with its family. Tragedy soon strikes when it is separated from its herd when it falls into a dark abyss. You wake up in a dark tunnel, hurt and alone. making your way through the dark, until you find yourself in a mysterious city rife with mystery and intrigue with your only goal being reuniting with your family. The game places a heavy emphasis on exploration and the majority of its lore and world-building comes

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Review

Cuphead managed to capture the hearts of millions when it was first launched in 2017. Since then it has gone on to amass a loyal following, due to its distinct 1930s cartoon aesthetic, high difficulty, and unique boss design. Several accolades and an animated TV show later, the grand finale of the game has arrived. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course manages to wrap the game up nicely, bringing with it new bosses, locations, and a new playable character in a package that far exceeds the original game. New elements and an exquisite soundtrack deliver the most satisfying Cuphead experience to date. Ms. Chalice enters the fold Introduced initially as a minor character (who you could later use as a special move) Ms. Chalice has been made a fully playable character in the delicious last course. She can be used if either Cuphead or Mugman equips the astral cookie. (a new

The Quarry Review

The Quarry Review

The Quarry follows Supermassive game’s highly popular Until Dawn with a great cast of new characters, excellent cinematography, soundtrack, and a stellar narrative. Taking the foundations of what made Until Dawn so beloved to deliver a spiritual successor many have been waiting for. While it manages to improve upon the studios’ previous similar outing in some ways, it falters in others, leaving a lot to be desired mechanically. Our review will remain spoiler-free, speaking mainly about the game’s mechanics and structure, although I will dive into spoilers for Until Dawn for comparison’s sake. Story While Until Dawn was a love letter to the genre The Quarry takes it one step further by borrowing heavily from classic horror slasher movies. It is clear from the get-go that the game was made by horror fans for horror fans. Taking classic tropes and clichés but twisting them to deliver a very satisfying story.

Sniper Elite 5 Review

Sniper Elite 5 delivers the series’ finest game to date with improvements across the board. While the game pushes the boundaries of what we have come to expect from the series the game ends up feeling very same with design choices that do not compliment the overall package. Story The Sniper Elite series has never been known for its stories. The game has always concerned itself more with how the player engages enemies. Combat and Gunplay have remained at the forefront and this trend continues with the latest entry. Sniper Elite 5 takes place after the events of Sniper Elite 4 and is set during World War II. Special Operations Expert Karl Fairburne has been deployed to France. Where he teams up with an army battalion to carry out an operation aimed at securing a village called Colline-Sur-Mer and a beachhead so that the Americans advance into France.  The story

Apex Legends Mobile Review

More than three years after its release on Consoles and PCs Apex Legends has finally arrived on mobile devices. Apex Legends Mobile takes the same formula as its console and PC counterparts and delivers a very satisfying and complete experience on mobile devices, although it is not without its caveats. Apex Legends burst onto the scene in 2019. It came at a time when games like Fortnite and PUBG were falling into complacency driven by a lack of competition. Apex Legends introduced mechanics that are now a staple of the battle royale genre, while also providing an incredibly fun, fluid, and well-balanced battle royale experience. A New Experience Apex Legends Mobile is an entirely separate experience from the console and pc versions. Where Fortnite enables cross-progression across virtually every version of the game, Apex Legends Mobile takes an approach similar to PUBG mobile. It’s the same game in essence but

Evil Dead: The Game Review

Blood, humor, gore, and glory. Saber Interactive’s newest contribution to the asymmetrical horror genre delivers on all these words in the truest sense. It stumbles along the way but what it manages to do is deliver an entertaining gameplay loop in a mostly satisfying package. Evil Dead: The Game is an asymmetrical horror game in the same vein as games like Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th. Four players survive in order to win the match as the enemy player tries to render them unsuccessful. Iterating on Tradition Unlike other games, Evil Dead: The Game makes an effort to break away from the oftentimes tired mold of the genre by leveling the playing field. Players are now able to wield guns and melee weapons in order to defend themselves from the enemy player. Like in Battle Royale games, players have to scrounge for weapons, instead of spawning in with

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt Review

Battle Royale games have only surged in popularity over the last five years. From Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends, and Warzone it’s clear the genre is here to stay but has grown tired over the years with developers churning out new games every year trying to cash in on the formula that was made popular in 2017. Sharkmob tries to iterate on the same boring formula by putting a fresh spin on the battle royale genre with Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt but in the end, it doesn’t quite manage to achieve what it’s trying to accomplish. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is a free-to-play battle royale game developed and published by sharkmob it was released on April 27th, 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Trek to Yomi GameUtha Review

Trek to Yomi is a 2.5D side-scrolling action-adventure game developed by Flying Wild Hog and Published by Devolver Digital. The game draws heavy inspiration from old Japanese Samurai films to deliver a game that excels within the confines of the side-scroller genre but fails to put forth a compelling story or combat to deliver a full package. The player assumes the role of Hiroki, a young samurai whose village is raided by bandits, as a vow to his dying master the vows to protect his village from all future threats. The game makes use of supernatural elements as Hiroki progresses through hell in the latter half of the game and enemies pulled from Japanese folklore that you have to fight through. The game has you fighting through hordes of enemies, solving the occasional puzzles, upgrading Hiroki. The game is fairly simple which is a given it’s an indie title retailing
