Kingdom Hearts 4 – Reveal Trailer

During Kingdom Heart’s 20th anniversary presentation in Japan, Square Enix formally announced the fourth entry in the series Kingdom Hearts alongside a mobile-only game. Tetsuya Namora, the series’ director was joined by the series’ composer Yoko Shimomura and other development partners on stage.

Kingdom Hearts IV is a departure from what fans have come to expect from the series. The gameplay trailer unveiled a fresh new take on Sora, the game’s main protagonist, featuring a realistic art style and new updates to the character model. The game will be unlike anything fans have experienced in the past.

The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5, and will be the start of an epic new storyline for the series, being dubbed “The Lost Master Arc” featuring an updated art style, characters, and combat.

In a press release, Square Enix introduced the setting of the game known as the Quadratum, a large, expansive city in a realistic and gorgeous world. Kingdom Hearts IV will see the return of fan-favorite characters Goofy and Donald while also introducing a new character called Strelitzia who appears before Sora in the game’s trailer.

The mobile-only game titled Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link will begin it’s closed beta test later this year and will feature a new original story which will tie into the events of Kingdom Hearts IV.

Series brand manager Ichiro Hamaza thanked the fans for their years of continued support and added that the team can’t wait for fans to experience the next chapter in Sora’s journey.

It is currently unknown whether the game will be released on the previous generation of consoles. There was also no indication of a release date.
