The Last of Us Remake & Multiplayer Announced

Summer Game Fest brought with it some very exciting news for the Last of Us Fans. Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann joined Geoff Keighley on stage to announce not one but two projects set within the Last of Us Universe while also dropping teases for the upcoming TV show.

The Last of Us Debuted in 2013 and went on to become one of the most beloved games of all time. The Sequel, The Last of Us Part II while polarizing amongst some fans is currently the most awarded game of all time. combined, the series has sold over 25 million copies. With the latest showing at the Summer Game Fest, it’s clear the series is nowhere near done.

The Last of Us Part I

The long-rumored remake of the original game was officially announced at the Summer Game Fest. Nearly 10 years on from its release there has been a substantial increase in video game rendering technology and The Last of Us Part I (which is the official title for the remake) will make full use of it.

The game is completely rebuilt from the ground up for PS5 and PC but it will retain the integrity and narrative of the original.

The Last of Us Part I will feature modernized gameplay, improved controls, and a substantial jump in visual fidelity. The remake will allow for parity between the second game and the first game.

Additionally, the remake will also take full advantage of the PS5’s 3D audio system and the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features.

The game is being directed by Director Matthew Gallant and Creative Director Shaun Escayg and is set to feature over 60 new accessibility options.

The Last of Us Part I is now available to preorder on PS5 with a release slated for September 2, 2022. A PC port is also in development.

The Last of Us Multiplayer Project

Originally meant to ship with The Last of Us Part II in June 2019, the multiplayer portion was dropped as it evolved into something much more ambitious. The untitled multiplayer project will be a standalone title, featuring an all-new setting and a cast of new characters.

The game will be open world and will be much more than a simple multiplayer mode. It will incorporate a narrative structure within the confines of the multiplayer aspect in addition to a fully fleshed-out open world. The game is currently without a release date. It was confirmed more details would be revealed next year.

The Last of Us TV Show

The Highly anticipated TV adaptation of the Last of Us has been moving along steadily. Principal photography just wrapped and fans got an all-new glimpse at Joel and Ellie (played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey) hiding from clickers.

The TV series is said to be an authentic retelling of the games while deviating in some ways to keep the audiences on the edge of their seats. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, the motion capture actors for Ellie and Joel in the games will join the cast. Additionally, Niel Druckmann has directed an episode of the show in addition to serving as an executive producer. The Last of Us TV show will debut on HBO Max early next year.
