Nintendo Direct September 2022 Recap

Nintendo returned with yet another Direct presentation detailing the futures of key franchises and announcing some new and exciting games headed to the Switch in the near future. From the announcement of the Breath of the Wild sequel to a mysterious new detective adventure in Raincode, the presentation was stacked.

We’ve picked out some of our top moments from Nintendo’s latest conference below so you don’t miss a thing!

Splatoon 3’s First Splatfest is Set to Arrive Soon

Splatoon 3 was released just under a week ago and is already making big waves. The game’s first post-launch content drop, Splatfest was announced and will be available on September 23 and last through to September 25. The theme for the first event is: What would you bring to a desert island? Players will be able to choose from three teams; Gear, Grub, and Fun.

Fire Emblem Engage Announced, Arrives on Nintendo Switch Early Next Year

The next mainline Fire Emblem game; Fire Emblem: Engage was announced with a brand-new trailer where players will take on the role of a dragon called Alear to destroy enemies that threaten the realm. While the game will be an entirely new story expect characters from previous entries to show up in the form of support characters. Fire Emblem: Engage is currently set for January 20, 2023.

Pikmin 4 is set to debut in 2023

The long-awaited sequel to 2013’s Pikmin 3 was announced during the event and is set to arrive next year. While no gameplay was shown off, the sequel was confirmed to receive a revised camera angle. According to game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the difficulty has been toned down, making the game more accessible to all players.

Bayonetta 3 is still slated for October 28

Bayonetta 3’s imminent release was reiterated during the presentation. A new trailer was released after the presentation ended detailing the story and showing off the game’s stylistic combat.

Raincode is a New Detective JRPG From the Creators of Danganronpa

Raincode is a new game from developer Too Kyo Games and will combine elements of detective adventure games and dark fantasy set in a dystopian city called Perpetual Rain which is run by highly corrupt corporations. The game will feature turn-based combat similar to what we’ve seen in other JRPGs. Raincode will place a heavy emphasis on crime solving.

Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, a Wii classic is set to receive a Nintendo Switch Port

Kirby’s Return to Dreamland an oft-overlooked Wii game is all set to receive a port on Nintendo’s handheld console. The game will add new abilities as well as co-op allowing you to team up with up to four players. Additionally, the game will also feature several mini-games to play.

Golden Eye 64 headed to Nintendo Switch

There are several N64 games headed to Nintendo’s expansion pass including Mario Party and Pilot Wings 64, but the standout amongst these games is the fan-favorite Golden Eye 64 which will arrive on the service complete with online multiplayer capabilities.

Octopath Traveler II Announced

The sequel to Octopath Traveler was announced alongside a new trailer. Octopath traveler II will feature 8 new characters each having their own origins, skills, and abilities. The sequel will retain the original’s signature HD-2D graphics and elevate it to new heights. The paths of all eight travelers will intertwine over the course of the game to provide a much richer narrative structure compared to the original. Octopath traveler II is set to arrive on February 23, 2023, on PS4, PS5, PC, and Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel Receives Title and Release Date

Perhaps the most anticipated game from Nintendo’s library, the sequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild finally received a title and a release date.
